In fact, all of the New York City major airports (JFK, Newark - which have flights to / from Italy and La Guardia) will be closed on Sunday due to the storm.

Other carriers are following suit including Delta Airlines which announced it will ground 1,300 flights Saturday through Monday. US Airways will not operate flights late Saturday and into Sunday into or out of Washington National, Dulles and Baltimore.

If you have any travel plans booked through these cities, please check directly with your airline.

When Hurricane Irene was on rage, I cancelled my flight to Milan due to the massive cancellations of flights. I am based in new York.

Sometimes we are really powerless when the wrath of nature is on our doorsteps. We could only pray for safety.

Luckily now, all the airports are re-opened, and hopefully the areas affected by this storm can get back to normal.
