Santa Lucia Day
(the saint to help the blind - comes from the word "luce" in Italian which means light)

When: December 13
Where: Siracusa, Southeast side of Sicily

One of the biggest celebrations in Sicily is the feast of Santa Lucia. This is where the city of Siracusa holds a huge parade where 60 men carry the saint on a golden coffin to the Church of Santa Lucia.

On December 20 there is another parade to return her to the crypt. The celebrations last all week and thousands of pilgrims come to Siracusa.

The festivities end with a big fireworks display over the harbor.
