L'infiorata di Noto, Sicily (Sicilia)

Every 3rd Sunday in May
The city of Noto
Southeast coast of Sicily

The city of Noto transforms itself by having a “Flower Festival” or L’infiorata. Via Corrado Nicolaci, a street in Noto (with many palaces) becomes filled with different artistic floral exhibits. Starting Friday, artists will work with special organic soil and use different colored flower petals, carnations, seeds, etc. to make artistic exhibitions similar to a stained-glass display.

The works are then admired over the weekend, and on Monday, the children are allowed to run through the works and destroy them. It is a symbolism of the renewal of life.
