Located in the heart of the island of Sardinia, lies Nuoro.
Every year they have the "SAGRA del REDENTORE" (Feast of the Redeemer) When: Religious ceremonies on August 29th Colorful procession in Sardinian costumes
The religious feast "Sagra del Redentore" takes place in Nuoro every 29th of August. The event celebrates the date when, in 1900, the colossal statue of the "Cristo Redentore" was located on the top of Monte Ortobene.
Even if the lay festivity attracts the greateast movement of tourists, the religious one is the most important and beloved by the people from Nuoro. During the celebration of "Redentore" people gather in the public square since dawn, in front of the Cathedral and, singing Sardinian songs, they start a procession towards the statue. The cortege is headed by a cart decorated with ears of wheat and oleander flowers. In front of the statue will be celebrated a sung Mass, followed by a solemn procession along the streets of Monte Ortobene. The great lay festivity is represented by a beautiful and colourful parade: the procession of the characteristic sardinian costumes will go through the city among typical songs and dances. The parade will end with the "Folklore Festival" that will take place in the amphitheatre situated in the centre of Nuoro.
Many of the festivities will culminate on the final Sunday of August, whether or not it is the 29th.
