This feast of San Lorenzo (St. Lawrence) is celebrated every year throughout Italy. The night of August 10th is when Italians traditionally gather on beaches to look for shooting stars. In Rome, fireworks, food and public celebrations take place outside the Church of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura, which was built over the saint’s tomb in the fourth century. Saint Lawrence was martyred on the site in 258 AD.
