The Italian government estimates that approximately 25 - 30 million people of Italian descent are in Brazil - they started arriving in 1875 and by 1900 approximately 1 million Italians emigrated to Brazil. Most settled in the State of São Paulo. Most came from the regions of Veneto (Venice), Campania (Naples) and Calabria.

The Brazilian government places the estimate between 15 million and 20 million. The current population of Brazil is approximately 195 million people, which means depending on the estimate you believe, approximately 10% of the Brazilian population has ties to Italy.
