Rosa Fresca, image by Enrico RubicondoAlthough the tradition of Mother’s Day celebrations has roots back to the Greek and Roman times, it was not until Woodrow Wilson declared it a national holiday in 1914 before it became a modern day celebration. Soon thereafter, it became popular in other countries all throughout the world.

In Italy, it was celebrated for the first time in 1957 by Otello Migliosi of Assisi, in the Tordbetto district. In Italy, as in many countries around the world, the tradition is for children to give little presents to their mothers in honor of mother’s day.
